NDM Insulation — Radiant Barrier Insulation

Radiant barriers keep the heat from the sun out of your home. Heat is transferred from the sun into your home using three methods: conduction, convection, and radiation. These three types of heat differ in the way that molecules react to heat, but radiation heat (or radiant heat) has to do with the thermal energy that travels as electromagnetic waves. Radiant barrier installation has to do with protecting your home against this third type of heat using reflective materials.

Radiant Barrier Insulation

For homes in hot climates, like those of many of our customers in Texas, a radiant heat barrier can help trap in cold air and help our customers avoid overspending on energy bills as a result of huge air conditioning costs. Radiant barriers work by inhibiting radiant heat gain. The hot surface on the underside of your roof, in your attic, radiates heat onto cooler surfaces in your attic, such as your air ducts and the floor of the attic. Radiant barrier materials work to prevent the radiant energy traveling from the hot roof deck to your air ducts and attic floor.
